Edmond Halley
Many people know the comet that bears my name: Edmond Halley – English scientist and engineer - but few people know that the walls and the ramparts of the Gorizia Castle are, in part, my work.
Dear visitor, I am Edmond Halley – English astronomer, mathematician and engineer.
Probably you know the comet that bears my name. However, you must know that from London, my home town where I was born in 1656, I travelled a lot and I set out on scientific expeditions all over the world. In my wanderings I stopped for a while also in Gorizia, where I had the honour to direct the work of strengthening the walls of the castle, creating - among other things - the "New Bastion" and the wall that extends toward the Castagnevizza.
Visit these wonderful and powerful works that, for me, have been a challenge as exciting as the discovery of a comet!
